HK Audio POLAR 15 MK2: the column PA gets a 15″ sub

HK Audio POLAR 15 MK2 column PA in a bar with stage lighting
TL;DR: The HK Audio POLAR 15 MK2 is the new top of the POLAR MK2 column range: the same 2000 W peak amp, 4-channel mixer, DSP and Bluetooth TWS as the POLAR 12 MK2, on a 15″ subwoofer. More low end, more headroom, and an M20 FlexMount for lighting. At Soundium for €1,499. The honest catch: the full system weighs 38.1 kg, close to 10 kg more than the POLAR 12 MK2.

Introduction

HK Audio's POLAR MK2 family has covered small rooms to mid-size gigs with 8″, 10″ and 12″ subs. The POLAR 15 MK2 adds the size DJs kept asking for: a 15″ cone in a plywood bass-reflex cabinet, carrying an aluminium column with six 3″ drivers and a 1″ compression driver on a constant directivity horn.

On paper the electronics are almost the same as the POLAR 12 MK2: Class-D bi-amping at 2000 W peak, 130 dB peak SPL, a mixer with two XLR/jack combo inputs, an instrument input and an aux channel for RCA or Bluetooth. The difference is the sub. A bigger cone moves the same air with less effort, so the system hits its limiter later and the low end stays tight when the room fills up. Frequency response reaches down to 35 Hz (-10 dB).

New for the 15 is the M20 FlexMount on the subwoofer, a threaded socket for mounting a light bar or other show gear without a separate stand.

Watch It in Action

HK Audio's official video, with Timo from SLD Event putting the POLAR 15 MK2 through a DJ setup (in German):

Key Features & Benefits

  • Bass you feel, not just hear: a 15″ bass-reflex subwoofer with response down to 35 Hz.
  • Headroom for DJ nights: 2000 W peak bi-amped Class-D and 130 dB peak SPL, with less limiter action than the 12″ model at the same level.
  • Even coverage: a 120° × 30° column pattern keeps vocals clear across the room, not just in front of the speaker.
  • Mixer on board: 2 × XLR/jack combo (mic/line), 1 × instrument input, aux via RCA or Bluetooth 5.0, plus XLR mix out.
  • Dial it in fast: MUSIC, DJ and VOICE presets, 5 user presets, delay and a 3-band EQ with semi-parametric mid.
  • Two systems, one stereo pair: Bluetooth True Wireless Stereo links two POLARs without cables.
  • Lights without the extra stand: the M20 FlexMount takes a light bar straight off the sub.
  • Protected in transit: sub cover and column transport bag included.

Real-World Reactions

“As any live engineer will tell you, it’s always better to have a larger sound system playing at a moderate level than a smaller one being pushed beyond nominal operating levels.”
Stefan Wyeth, gearnews.com
“Overall, the POLAR 15 MK2 takes the portable column speaker concept into a more heavy-duty category, ideal for quick, easy setups for packed techno parties in tight spaces.”
Stefan Wyeth, gearnews.com

That matches how we read it. The 15 isn't louder on paper than the 12, but it has more in reserve. That's what you hear at 1 a.m. when the room is full.

Who It's For

  • Mobile DJs who want real low end from a three-piece system one person can set up
  • Bands and duos who already use a POLAR 12 MK2 and keep running out of bass
  • Bars, clubs and event venues that need a tidy column PA with lighting on the same footprint

Who should look elsewhere: if you carry gear up stairs alone every weekend, the 30.5 kg sub is the heaviest part of the job. The POLAR 12 MK2 or POLAR 10 MK2 are the lighter options with the same mixer and workflow.

Final Thoughts

The POLAR 15 MK2 doesn't reinvent HK Audio's column. It gives it the sub it was missing for DJ work. If your POLAR 12 MK2 is working hard every weekend, or you're buying your first column for club-style nights, the 15 is the one to look at. If you carry everything alone, the lighter POLARs still make more sense.
